It’s amazing how time flies. Since completing my first psychology degree way back in 2005, I’ve worked with thousands of clients across the wellbeing spectrum. Whilst the bulk of my career has been as a Psychotherapist, today I wear a couple of different “Hats”. As well as being a CBT and EMDR Therapist, I’m now also a Positive Psychologist and Wellbeing coach.

My journey into self-development started in 2001. At the time, I was a floundering musician, working in a used goods shop in Liverpool city centre to make ends meet. It was through seeing guitarists hocking their prized Stratocasters for the week just to pay their bills, and not making any progress with my own aspirations, that I became aware that I needed to take some action to get control of my life.

Serendipitously, I chanced upon a recent purchase in the second-hand store where I worked at: A Tony Robbins’ “Personal Power” CD boxed set (first disc missing). Dismissing the irony of a life coaching success program getting sold to a Cash Converters – I can only hope that the seller had so much good fortune that they wanted to pass on the good vibes! – I bought the set, committed to action, and began my upward trajectory into psychology and self-improvement.

I started my Psychology degree in 2002, and began working part-time as a support worker for people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties. After graduating in 2005, I found a job in the NHS as a Graduate Mental Health worker, before training as a CBT therapist in 2008. In the NHS, I also trained as an EMDR Trauma Therapist, became accredited as a CBT supervisor, and took on leadership and project management roles across different locality services.

I set up my private therapy company Access CBT LTD in 2014. Here, myself and a team of associate therapists provide CBT, EMDR and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), for in-person and online clients across the world.

Although I love doing therapy, in around 2018, I started to become frustrated with its limitations. Reading more and more about Positive Psychology and Life Coaching, I wanted to know how to achieve even greater outcomes for my clients. I wanted them to not only get well, but to really thrive. I also noticed a change in how some of my clients wanted to use their therapy. Increasingly, people were interested in Positive Psychological constructs like flourishing, maintaining positive emotions, and the applications of mindfulness as a wellbeing tool. I tried to accommodate these new expectations with my existing psychotherapeutic knowledge for so long, but I started to feel like I was just winging it. At this point, I realised that the time was right for my next developmental steps into Positive Psychology and Coaching.

I enrolled on the Personal Development Coaching program with the Coaching Academy and, not one to rest on my laurels, completed a Masters degree in Positive Psychology and Wellbeing. Positive Psychology Coaching is the yin to therapy’s yang, the evidence-based antidote to forever trying to fix what is “wrong” with us.

I have learned that positive emotions evolved to help us to unhook from threat and loss based emotions, and to lead to broader, more generative ways of thinking and behaving. I have found the power of using VIA Character Strengths as a powerful strengths-based system to enable us to explore and develop the best aspects of our personalities. I’ll teach you how to use evidence-based meditation techniques to foster optimism, self-compassion, gratitude and hope.

I’ve worked with people in entertainment, business, sports, and music to help them boost their well-being and I’ve coached them to flourish in their chosen fields.

I live and breathe this stuff, and I’m looking forward to coaching you on the upward trajectory to thriving in whatever it is that you want to achieve in your life.
